/L’AMANT D'UN JOUR (LOVER FOR A DAY). 2017. France. Directed by Philippe Garrel. Screenplay by Garrel, Jean-Claude Carrière, Caroline Deruas-Garrel, Arlette Langmann. With Éric Caravaca, Esther Garrel, Louise Chevillotte. In French; English subtitles. 76 min.
Shot in ravishing 35mm black and white and lavished with critical praise, Philippe Garrel’s LOVER FOR A DAY is a caprice of romantic agonies and reveries. In this original story by four screenwriters (two men and two women), a 23-year-old woman moves in with her adoring father, a philosophy professor, and the 23-year-old student he has (of course) taken as a lover.
