GME Distributes Films by Carl Th. Dreyer, Which Play in Anthology Film Archives' Essential Cinema Screenings for January

As part of their Essential Cinema series — a “collection of films screened on a repertory basis… consist[ing] of 110 programs [and] 330 titles assembled [from] 1970 [to] 1975” — Anthology Film Archives will show seven works by Danish filmmaker Carl Th. Dreyer from January 6th to January 13th. Five additional works by Dreyer, distributed by GME on DVD and/or Blu-Ray to the North American university market, are a perfect complement to this program.

A brand new 4K restoration of Jean-Luc Godard’s ALPHAVILLE (1965), made from the original 35mm negative by Studiocanal at Hiventy with the support of the CNC, opened at the IFC Center on December 15th and will play there through December 28th. GME distributes ALPHAVILLE to the North American university market as a Blu-Ray, DVD, and DSL file.

On December 2nd, 2023, GME President Jon Gartenberg provided background and context regarding the recovery of Andy Warhol’s film oeuvre at the 60th anniversary benefit screening of Warhol’s SLEEP, hosted by the Film-Makers’ Cooperative at The Bunker at 222 Bowery. Gartenberg was instrumental in the excavation and preservation of Warhol’s films in the 1980s.

Jon Gartenberg Introduced Francis Ford Coppola's DEMENTIA 13 on November 29th for MoMA's Adrienne Mancia Tribute

On November 29th, 2023, at 6:30pm, GME President Jon Gartenberg introduced the Director’s Cut of Francis Ford Coppola’s feature-length debut, the Roger Corman/American International Pictures-produced 1963 horror film DEMENTIA 13, at the Museum of Modern Art. The film screened as part of the museum’s tribute to former programmer Adrienne Mancia, who passed away last year and who was a close friend and colleague of Gartenberg’s. Jon Gartenberg to Present King Vidor, Henry King, and Francis Ford Coppola Films At MoMA As Part of Adrienne Mancia Tribute

On Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, at 1pm, GME President Jon Gartenberg will introduce King Vidor’s THE JACK-KNIFE MAN (1920) and Henry King’s THE SEVENTH DAY (1922) at the Museum of Modern Art, as part of their Adrienne Mancia tribute, which runs from November through December 2023. Later that day, Gartenberg will also introduce the Director’s Cut of Francis Ford Coppola’s first film, the 1963 AIP horror DEMENTIA 13.
