Jean-Luc Godard's ALPHAVILLE Plays at IFC Center Through December 28th

A brand new 4K restoration of Jean-Luc Godard’s ALPHAVILLE (1965), made from the original 35mm negative by Studiocanal at Hiventy with the support of the CNC, opened at the IFC Center on December 15th and will play there through December 28th. GME distributes ALPHAVILLE to the North American university market as a Blu-Ray, DVD, and DSL file.

Happy Holidays from Gartenberg Media Enterprises! Now that it’s already December, we’re looking back at events, screenings, and celebrations from last month, in New York City and beyond, related to colleagues of GME, as well as films and/or filmmakers in our collection that we distribute to the North American university market. November’s events offered a unique selection of work by GME artists and associates, from Alexandra Dean and Nancy Buirski, to a number of fascinating titles featured in MoMA’s ongoing Adrienne Mancia tribute.

On December 2nd, 2023, GME President Jon Gartenberg provided background and context regarding the recovery of Andy Warhol’s film oeuvre at the 60th anniversary benefit screening of Warhol’s SLEEP, hosted by the Film-Makers’ Cooperative at The Bunker at 222 Bowery. Gartenberg was instrumental in the excavation and preservation of Warhol’s films in the 1980s.

On November 29th, 2023, at 6:30pm, GME President Jon Gartenberg introduced the Director’s Cut of Francis Ford Coppola’s feature-length debut, the Roger Corman/American International Pictures-produced 1963 horror film DEMENTIA 13, at the Museum of Modern Art. The film screened as part of the museum’s tribute to former programmer Adrienne Mancia, who passed away last year and who was a close friend and colleague of Gartenberg’s. Earlier this week, on Tuesday, November 27th, 2023, Turner Classic Movies paid tribute to accomplished documentary filmmaker Nancy Buirski, who passed away earlier this year. Gartenberg Media Enterprises was thrilled to collaborate with Buirski on her final film, the documentary DESPERATE SOULS, DARK CITY, AND THE LEGEND OF ‘MIDNIGHT COWBOY’.

Tonight, December 1st, and tomorrow, December 2nd, 2023, at 7pm, the Film-Makers’ Cooperative is hosting a benefit screening of Andy Warhol’s first major film, SLEEP (1963), at The Bunker at 222 Bowery. In the mid-1980s, while working in the Museum of Modern Art’s Film Department, GME President Jon Gartenberg was instrumental in the resuscitation of Warhol’s films, like SLEEP, which were thought to be lost or destroyed after Warhol pulled them out of circulation.
